ENGINEER HERE: Texas is one of the real oddities in the world right now and a really interesting case study in energy. Normally we hear people complain about Texas and lax regulations like with guns. But with energy that same lax attitude to regulation has made Texas one of the few places that isn't suffering energy issues like other places. YES Texas has major issues with reliability as shown with that cold snap where people died but outside of those sorts of events Texas is one of the best places in the developed world for energy development. Its ironic that one of the most pro-fossil fuel states in the world is also a world leader in renewable energy. People have been able to build things without years of public discussion which happens with things like wind farms. They can put solar on their roof without having to dance through piles of red tape. Can it have problems? YES like they had with the cold snap and how people got snookered with some insane bills. One of the interesting things that has come out of Texas is that houses with solar panels don't have to use as much power for air conditioning because the solar panels are providing a layer between the roof and solar panel that helps keep the house cooler. That could have huge benefits to many places.

@monicaluketich6913 Great comment and it goes right to the heart of the matter. Do we want clean air to breath and clean water to drink? I'm actually an Australian engineer who did his degree in America and this is the same question that's being asked everywhere. Mark Blyth who's a professor at Brown U. and studies political-economy which is the study of how politics and economics interact. He was at some conference recently and some CEO said they really are taking climate change seriously. When Mark asked why the answer was, "nobody wants the children to think they are utter basta*ds." I'm a Gen X but have nephews and a niece who are Gen Z and them and the millennials ARE ANGRY. They are looking at what's been left for them to clean up and they aren't impressed. That whole Greta Thunberg generation NOW VOTE and they are NOT going to vote for any of these establishment parties and their "status quo" politics. They aren't interested in dying in any war so that some CEO gets a bonus and the shareholders make 15% selling bullets and smart bombs. Don't be surprised if the next round of elections across the developed world have some massive changes. We've already seen some of that in Europe and Australia were some of the establishment parties have been belted. All that's needed is a respectable platform that doesn't come with a truckload of fantasy and lies.

@KC73 I never said it kept the house cool I said it reduced the energy needed for the air con. BIG DIFFERENCE

@KC73 Your from Texas having an addled brain is normal. I have been to Texas a few times. As long as you stay off politics I found most Texans pretty reasonable.

@KC73 What are you the one person in Texas who doesn't like football?
