  1. HEY EVERYONE - Go check Wikipedia for what was going on in 1220. In Britain they crowned a 12 year old as King Henry III while Frederick II of Sicily tried to get his 9 year old son declared King of Germany but instead Frederick II himself simply ended up being crowned Holy Roman Emperor by the Pope. In the Middle East there was the 5th Crusade where Christians were slaughtering Muslims when they weren't being slaughtered themselves by Muslims. (Sounds familiar) But I think what Michael Knowles likes best about 1220 was that Iran was invaded, except it wasn't by Americans it was by a mad man by the name of Genghis Khan and his family of what could be mildly called psychopaths. Among their favorite things was to kill every man and boy of a town or city and then rape all the women so that the next generation born would be Mongol sons and daughters. It was their version of "make the world Mongol" which is pretty damn similar to the current American philosophy of "make the world American." Yeah 1220 one of humanities favorite years to remember.
