  1. In Australia we shutdown and we limited the disaster. We also implemented a payment system called "job keeper" to keep people employed. Did we get everything right - absolutely NOT. We dropped the ball at one point and it cost over 700 lives about the same as 2 fully loaded 747s crashing. Did certain businesses and industries get "special treatment" that was unwarranted - absolutely. Our construction industry was allowed to continue business as usual. Our professional sports found ways to get exemptions as if they were "essential services." So NO we did not get everything right. These people can scream all they like what we did worked and what America, Sweden and others have done didn't. FYI - I went to college in America (U. Illinois late 80s). The combined populations of Illinois (12.6), Wisconsin (5.8) and Indiana (6.7) is 25.2 million to Australia's 25.6 million. Australia has 908 COVID fatalities while the combined Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana total is 25,006 (as of 10/12/2020) Australia has 1429 active cases compared to Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana who have 486,173 active cases. For roughly the same population Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana have over 25 times the number of COVID deaths.
