This is what you get when you have a mass media (Fox, CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT,..... etc) who are so engaged with ramming OPINION as fact down peoples throats and shoving so much of it that people are SIMPLY OVERWHELMED and start losing the ability to discern between fact and fiction. If there is one thing all of the media are responsible for its the shear volume of noise that's coming at us. The dystopian nightmares of Orwell and Hollywood are almost here where we can't tell what's real and what's not. I once had a DVD copy of the Schwarzenegger film "The Running Man" It included a featurette by someone who worked on the film AND ALSO on the TV show Survivor. He said that just as the film was about a semi-scripted and manipulated reality TV show so are all of the current reality TV Shows like Survivor. He described it in the same way I've seen pro-wrestling described. The second by second details are NOT scripted but the overall appearance is controlled and manipulated. This is what we are now being overwhelmed with by the media. Its not scripted in a second by second way BUT the overall themes pumped out by the various channels are controlled this is most noticeable in the hyper-partisan channels whether they are small or the massive main stream corporate channels like Fox, MSNBC, CNN,.... etc.
