  1. Australian here. We have similar garbage with our politicians and their retirement funding. One famously retired early because there was a real chance he'd lose his seat and because he retired as a full minister he got an extra $1,000,000 ON TOP of the standard political retirement funding which is generally 4x as high as the population. Every time we change government they always claim it will be reviewed. If they do review it they hire "independent consultants" who write yet another glorious report that explains why those payments need to INCREASE. As far as I know not 1 "independent review" has ever suggested politicians should get less money.
