If Laura Ingraham wanted to make a sensible argument regarding pot there's actual scientific studies showing there are some dangers. Notable the USAF did a study back in the 80s where they had fighter pilots take all sorts of things and then put them in simulators to see what the issues were. They found out that for pilots of fighter jets (which require extraordinary skill to operate) that pot is the most dangerous drug because it affects their response times. They also found that fighter pilots were unable to operate the jets safely for several days after smoking as little as a single joint. More recently Swinburne University in Australia did a similar study with respect to pot as well as the combination of pot and alcohol on driving cars. Studies had shown that when pot was involved in a car accident the chances of it being a fatal accident were markedly higher when pot was involved. What they found at Swinburne confirmed what the USAF had found years earlier. Pot affects response times, but they went a little further and found that this is caused by a reduction in peripheral vision which is where humans get their sense of speed from. They found people who'd smoked pot were less aware of how fast they were going. So when they crashed in the simulator they tended to crash at higher speeds and more speed equals more pain. Swinburne also found it was even worse when pot and alcohol were combined.
