  1. I have no idea why anybody is surprised by this. There's been plenty of stories over the years about how bad Saudi justice is and how they still do public executions. I remember one report that warned Westerners never to be in a Saudi market on a Friday around lunch time because they round up foreigners and force them to watch how "effective Saudi justice is." I'm Australian and an Australian nurse who worked in a hospital over there was forced to watch an execution. In one interview a representative of a human rights organisation simply said the worst thing that can happen to you in a Saudi prison is the doctor comes to see you on a Friday morning because they give people a huge dose of sedatives before they take them out to have hands and heads chopped off. Its done to keep the prisoner calm while they do it. But the craziest comment I ever read or heard was from an American PR consultant in the Melbourne Age newspaper. Apparently the Saudis employ a couple of PR firms to handle issues some of their princes get up to in Europe and America. I remember this comment because my boss at the time was Jewish and I showed it to him. In describing what it takes to do PR for the Saudis this American PR consultant said (paraphrasing), "I'm Jewish and I would prefer to do PR for the Nazi Party than the Saudi Royals." He gave no specifics but said that as a way of saying how bad they are.
