@insightfulhistorian1861 After the dot.com bubble and before the GFC I saw a British BBC Panorama special on Payments to college professors for publishing pro-business papers. What they uncovered was a system where banks like Goldman, Credit Suisse, HSBC,.... etc would fund professors to write papers that favored what they were lobbying for. The lobbyists could present those papers to lawmakers claiming "see here's what Harvard says" and we need to make that happen. It wasn't just Harvard either it was all the top Universities. You see its a lot cheaper to bribe professors and manufacture consent than fund political campaigns. It was a long time back but I remember them confronting one professor who became indignant and claimed "how dare they question the integrity of the chair of..... at ......" I remember because he snapped that anyone questioned his integrity or the merit of his work. Basically a lot of these economics professors are actually PR for business interests. And lets face it the PR from a Harvard boy is worth a lot more than a professor at Bumblefuk U.
