All this nonsense comes from the idea in philosophy that somebody needs to take the opposite side of a discussion to generate sensible debate. They think its a way to not miss vital points, but they never seem to understand that endless circular discussions SOLVES NOTHING. To the rest of humanity its arguing for the sake of arguing. One of the assistant coaches for my college team was a philosophy major and used to drive us nuts with this shite.
