Actually America has been self sufficient in energy for over a decade. Go and listen to one of Peter Ziehan's talks. The American northern shale fields produce sweet light crude and most of the southern refineries were designed to refine heavy sour crude. Normally the tankers only transport crude in 1 direction so costs money to send an empty tanker back to the middle east for another load. So, its incredibly profitable to send tanker loads of sweet elsewhere and have them return full of heavy sour. With prices as they are those profit margins are only better.

Why TF should Venezuela switch their currency? This is such American centric stupidity. The US Dollar has been the worlds reserve currency since the Bretton Woods agreement in 1944. Even after Nixon tore up Bretton Woods and the WTF eventually came in to being the US Dollar was and still is the worlds reserve currency. Most international trade is done is US Dollars. EVEN when deals are made between countries and America is nowhere in sight it still involves US Dollars most of the time and when it doesn't the deal is usually made on markets and traded through banks underpinned by US Dollars. Go listen to some of Mark Blyth's lectures on the main issue with the common currency in Europe. Yes it has benefits but also has some very bad side effects.

@thecanadianempire8767 Your right banning American oil exports hurts the American companies that export sweet crude and hurt them heaps because it sells for a lot more than heavy sour. But in terms of the worlds energy crisis you are misunderstanding the issue. 1) The energy crisis is a complex economic problem that has been coming for about 25 years. Its got a lot more to do than just Russian Gas, American light sweet and Saudi heavy sour. Most of the worlds large nuclear plants as well as many large coal fired power stations are rapidly approaching their end of life. I am an engineer and I can tell straight up this is a monster issue nobody is talking much about. These big large base load power stations are not easy to replace under any circumstances. They take years to design, years to get approved and years to build. Hinckley Point C, one of the very few that's been approved let alone started took 7 years to design and approve and will take 10 to build and wont be ready before 2028. Meanwhile Britain is farked for the next 6 years. Others might be farked for a lot longer than that because at least Britain is building something. 2) If America doesn't export sweet crude it also doesn't need to import heavy sour either. So the supply of crude isn't going down. The problem is where do you process it. If you have a plant that's been set up for American light sweet crude you can't switch it over to process heavy sour at all. Again I am an engineer and this is another fact very few people understand. Also America has its own heavy sour supplies from Alberta and Mexico so it can mix that with light sweet and process it Texas. Its not ideal but its better than being farked.
