Good point the actual divide in American politics IS NOT left versus right its the corporate establishments of both parties versus the rest of society. Its one thing so few on the left have worked out. Trump took over the right by appealing to the trampled mass of the Republican base. In terms of basic economics and life options for the Republican base are the same as the Democrat base. They have been bashed for years, let down by elected officials for decades and simply got fed up with hearing from yet another group of corporate Republican goons like they were presented with in 2016. People seem to forget Trump smashed his way past 16 (or so) corporate hacks like Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz. The fact they responded in such a crazy way is another thing and the fact they have kept chugging down Trumps Kool Aid is a disaster. But that's populism.
