  1. AUSTRALIAN HERE: 1) We have universal health care, but we do it a little different by having a dual system of public & private. 2) Its EMBARRASSING to here how far down the list we are. We have just had our most successful Olympics and finished 4th on the Medal Table with 18 gold, 19 solver & 16 bronze. WHAT'S NOT SHOWN is how much we support Olympic Athletes BETWEEN THE GAMES. We don't have the stipend system the Brits have but we do have a system that has incentives for a SPORT to do well. Swimming gets huge money here because it gets big results. We just finished second in swimming with 7 Gold, 9 Silver 3 Bronze for 19 medals. Field hockey is really well funded because they do so well at World Championships, Commonwealth Games and other big tournaments. These Olympics were a bust for them after solid starts and that could hurt their future funding except the fact we are hosting the Brisbane games in 2032. What most Australian Olympic sports can expect is that if they are going to be contested in Brisbane they'll get big money and if they have chances to medal that money will only get better. So in the next few years ANYONE who has to compete against Australians vying for Olympic money can expect them to throw EVERYTHING into it and that will be even more so at things like world championships.
