The reality of this thread is that its based on a very simple description of a very complex problem. I'd recommend everybody to go and listen to Dr. Michael Osterholm (the Director of CIDRAP) who has decades of experience at handling pandemic response. He's the expert in this field NOT Chomsky or Kyle or Pakman. CIDRAP is located at the U. of Minnesota and when they went to implement a mandate on students earlier this year Dr. Osterholm advised against it and he's as pro-vaccine as anyone can be. He explained on his podcast at the time that when it comes to vaccinations there are 3 groups NOT 2 as most people assume. There are: 1: The pro-vaccination people who will get vaccinated as soon as they can. These people are not a problem. 2: The anti-vaxxers who will not voluntarily get vaccinated. These people are a huge problem THAT CAN'T be easily dealt with right now. 3: The hesitant who will likely be vaccinated once their concerns are answered. Dr. Osterholm was adamant about NOT ALIENATING people. In his decades of experience it NEVER WORKS. It only drives the anti-vaxxers harder into their corner where they dig in even deeper. I think your right, Chomsky is assuming that these people will act responsibly when the simple fact is that there are people who howl about "their rights" who NEVER GIVE a DAMN about anyone else's right. Its like the pro-gun people who demand their right to won a gun AND DON'T CARE about the safety of other people. Before COVID Measles had not simply reappeared it had made resurgence and that was all due to anti-vaxxers. The simple reality is that society has always had those people who demand they be allowed to do whatever they like irrespective of the damage or threat or inconvenience to the rest of us they are.

@rdu239 Well that's going into the whole "cost of health care in America" issue. I'm Australian but went to college in America, so I know first hand how big that issue is. If I told how our system works you'd simply break down and cry. I hate what the dialog in America has done. I have people in America I genuinely care about. I also care about the country in general. Its such an awesome country and its being wrecked by selfish ignorance. You might have seen or heard the recent comments by Ted Cruz and Candace Owens that went down here like baseball bat to the nuts. What's worse is the people who believe their crap. Yet on the flip side America has people like Dr. Osterholm who is recognized AROUND THE WORLD and they're being widely ignored in America. He's the sort of person Kyle, Pakman, Sagaar, Krystal, etc. should be having on regularly to discuss these issues and they aren't. WHY? We had a big teleconference for virologists a few months ago on what we need to do to get past COVID. It was covered by most of our media. He was one of the key note speakers. America has some of the best health care people in the world and they gate ignored. WHY?

@paulsmith7579 Dude if you are going to be that idiotically stupid regarding vaccines then just go away and do it somewhere else. As for the 2 Tier idiocy, that's exactly what Dr. Osterholm has spoken against - it never works. The difference between people advocating a 2 tier society and anti-vaxxers is that the 2 Tier people (however stupid) ARE NOT getting people hurt or killed. Further they can at least be reasoned with.
