I actually thought he'd get off for the simple reason that so many other people of similar public position have never even been charged let alone gone to trial let alone been convicted. So well done America for finding a way to make your justice system work and hold him accountable.

On your point of Trump really facing consequences, well this is a CONSEQUENCE and no matter what he claims he went in front of a jury and was found GUILTY on 34 of 34 charges. That's maybe the most single surprising outcome. They found him guilty on all 34 charges. As for consequences, Trump is and always has been wrapped up in his IMAGE and that image now has the word CONVICTED FELON stamped on it. Trump is now OFFICIALLY a CRIMINAL. If somebody in the street yells out that Trump is a criminal he can't sue them for deformation. If a journalist uses the word criminal in the same sentence as Trump's name he can't sue them for deformation. It might not seem like it but this has consequences.
