  1. The tragedy of that statement is that its not that far from the truth. I'm an Australian U.of Illinois graduate and this week I did some math & stats. Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana have a combine population of 25.2 million which is very close to Australia's 25.6 million. Australia has 908 COVID deaths while Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana have over 25,700. Australia has just over 1,400 active cases while Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana have over 255,000 active cases heading into winter. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Its not simply a tragedy its a catastrophe and its only going to get worse as I know what winter is like in those states. America just past the 300,000 dead mark which puts it over 100 times worse than 9/11. Its quite likely that number will go past 400,000 before Joe Biden takes the oath of office. Australia does not have a magic juice as some claim, mostly we got lucky being an island and having lots of space and a mild winter. I truly hope America finds a way past this - bets wishes to all.   2.  @BRobertSock  It can always be worse just as easily as it could always be better. We fucked up and it cost 700 lives and that is nothing into be proud of. That's like crashing a couple of 747s, because you forgot to put fuel in the plane. Getting it back under control and limiting that damage is worth being proud of, but we still have people whinging.

  3.  @peterfreeman1585  No need to explain to me what happened. I'm Australian, currently living in Brisbane. I went to college at U. Illinois and it saddens me and angers me to see what has happened. We actually did drop the ball in Victoria at one point and it cost around 700 lives (the equivalent of a couple of packed 747s crashing). When Victoria went into lockdown to get it under control the libertarians went bat crap crazy (to quote Penny) and Murdoch's right wing media went into full attack mode because the Victorian Premier is a left winger they hate. Right now after he got it back under control his approval is its best ever and no one with a brain wants to hear anything from Murdoch's A-holes. We still have some major issues for everyone to realise. Our tourism industry will take years to recover and the 1000s and 1000s of international students wont be back for a while either.
