  1. About the same number don't believe they went to the moon. If America is lucky there will be overlap with those numbers. Every population has a certain percentage of complete total idiots. Historically many regimes used war as a way to control the numbers. If your that lord of the land one way to control the threat of peasants revolting is to march them off to war. Another lord reduces your idiot problem as you do the same for him. Its a win win for both and if your side wins you get some spoils to boot. Unfortunately these days too many people don't like that method and since we don't have an alternative their numbers are rising. They don't know how to do math, read or write or reason, but they know how to breed.
