I'm Australian and way back in the 1960s we had an indigenous wire guided anti-tank missile that they measured its accuracy in 10ths of inches at 2,000 yards. I remember a documentary in the 1980s that basically said if a missile operator can see a target then they can hit it. We all saw what happened during the Falklands War. Why would anyone NOT think that this would happen with 21st Century missiles? After seeing the effectiveness of guided munitions last year its pretty obvious that if you are seen first then you are in serious trouble. With the use of drones guiding in munitions onto targets with incredible accuracy and those munitions having ranges well over 20km that by the time you see a drone you have to assume that the first shell is inbound and it will hit whatever the drone has targeted. Even if you see a drone and take it out you still have to assume that there is an inbound munition and you MUST move quickly. Why they were operating without defensive air cover is mind numbing. Yeah i have seen other comments on this page about how the Russians would target the Gepard, but if you don't have something to protect your MBTs and APCs from air attacks then those guys in the MBTs and APCs are just statistics.

That's actually the claim that some Americans made after the retreat from Afghanistan on why the Taliban took over so quickly. They had almost 20 years of practising against the Americans so they knew HOW the Afghan army had been trained and would react.

Its very, very, very simple - Germans are competent engineers and recognize a lemon when they see one.
