Elon Musk who claimed to be the "inventor" of Hyperloop actually did not invent the idea of transport pods in tubes, that was shown in numerous sci-fi film and TV shows like the 1976 film Logan's Run and the TV show Space 1999. The actual concept was invented by the godfather of modern rocketry Robert Goddard in 1904 (118 years ago). As an aerospace engineer and avid reader of science fiction I can tell you there is a significant difference between what we can do and what we would like to do. I'd love to have my own Millennium Falcon or Firefly that I could buzz around the solar system with, but that's not likely to ever happen for anyone. For engineers we are limited by the Laws of Physics, while sci-fi authors and techno-grifters are NOT.
