As an Australian we so often here about Rupert Murdoch and what he's done to 3 nations (Australia, Britain & America) that we tend to forget that he is just 1 of the oligarchs who are currently plaguing our societies and poisoning our world. I'm an engineer but I've been informally studying economics for a couple of years. It came from having a lot of interference on projects from people with economics backgrounds. So I've been listening and watching lectures and videos from people like Yanis, Mark Blyth, Mariana Mazzucato, Steve Keen, Gary Stevenson and others. I have just watched 2 series of lectures by Damon Silvers at UCL-IIPP one on Climate Change Economics and the other on Neoliberalism. The series on Neoliberalism is a must watch for anyone interested in fixing the world, because unless you understand the problem its damn hard to fix it.

  2. Lets get our facts right. NOBODY is covering up the Gaza Genocide there are people who are WILLFULLY IGNORING the facts. Some people are saying the genocide is real and its happening right before our eyes WHILE OTHERS are ignoring the fact that more than 34,000 people (including over 15,000 children) who had NOTHING to do with the October 7th Attacks & Kidnappings have been slaughtered for no other reason than they have been deemed "less than human." Its not a cover-up because the facts are plain and obvious. Its willful and deliberate ignorance of those facts.

  3. You are so right, but he does need to be a bit more careful with his language at times. People like him and Piketty and Wolff need to realise that nobody is going to flip back to any sort of Marxism. It will be some from of new economics that might be a hybrid of others things. Yanis likes to call everyone "comrade" and that's ok with me but certainly not ok with many people. Like a few others he needs to realise that Marxism (communism/socialism) FAILED or at least accept that the way Marxism (communism/socialism) was practiced FAILED and FAILED MASSIVELY. From the Gulags & purges to the environmental catastrophes of places like the Aral Sea, Marxism in all its variations FAILED and nobody is going to go back to it. What the Capitalists need to realise is that capitalism has ALSO FAILED or at least this version of capitalism (neoliberalism) has failed. Just like some of the Marxists don't want to admit Marxism failed the capitalists don't want to admit capitalism has failed. On that Yanis and others are 100% right, we need new economic ideas.

  4. I like Yanis, I think he has lots of good ideas and this speech has many, many truths in it. But he needs to drop this nonsense about a challenge to the US Dollar and he pointed out the main reason. The Current Hegemonic leadership just wont allow for it. Mark Suckerberg was going to have Libra and that very quietly died. Mark Blyth hinted at WHY it was doomed back in 2019. Yanis as an economist should be aware of why Crypto wont work.   6. AND YOU ARE EXACTLY WHY THE LEFT LOSES. Do you NOT get that the entire Western World has seen what Radical Left Socialism did to Eastern Europe for 50 years? There is no damn way anyone wants to go back for a second round of what the Soviets did or what happened in East Germany, Romania, Poland or any of the other Eastern block countries. We all know that we can't keep going how we are BUT THERE'S NO WAY that anyone wants the crap your selling.
