  1. ENGINEER HERE: Funny how the clowns in the media can do all these wonderful videos but can't spell out the basic problem. HOW MUCH LITHIUM DO WE NEED? There are 1.5 billion cars in the world, 500 million trucks and then mountains of "other stuff." Looking at just the cars because its simple and straight forward. The Tesla Model S uses 63kg of Lithium. So 1.5 Billion x 63kg = 94.5 Billion kgs or 94.5 Million tons. Currently according to the US geological society there's 21 million tons that we know of in the ground WORLD WIDE. By other estimates it might be 26 million tons WORLD WIDE. Simply put we barley have enough Lithium to do 1/3 of the cars and nothing left to do all the truck and "other stuff." Even if we build many of those cars with much smaller battery packs we still don't have enough. YES we can do the energy transition BUT WE NEED A BETTER PLAN.
