  1. Ronald Reagan had the famous line "Government is not the solution. Government is the problem" These days I say "Economists are NOT the solution to our economic problems. They are the problem" FYI - I'm an Australian engineer and started looking into economists and how they think and do what they do following a 2016 project into Australia's future energy needs. I was horrified at what I found with how old our power stations were and even worse the lack of planning going forward. I was then stunned to see the same problem being repeated across the Developed World and the cause was neoliberal ideology. Things like the energy crisis, the cost of living crisis, the underfunding of health care and education, the lack of new infrastructure to deal with population increase AND MANY OTHER THINGS are just symptoms of neoliberal dogma. At its core was Milton Freidman's view that anything and everything that governments do is wrong. He and all the neoliberals since have never been able to understand that governments need to do certain things so the rest of society can function properly and the private sector can make money. If you dig further into the University of Chicago where Freidman and his gang of clowns were based then it traces back to John D Rockefeller who's money helped found it. So from its very outset a core ideology at UC was that "governments are bad and taxes are theft." before Freidman came along another infamous UC professor James O. McKinsey who is basically responsible for the parasitic consulting industry that now plagues the entire planet. For example here in Australia we spent over AU$20billion in recent years on consultants AND NOTHING WORKS BETTER. In fact in one case there was a major scandal involving PwC who was advising our government on closing tax loop holes while they sold off the information on how to get around the advice they were giving our government to the private sector.

  6.  @pennyflynn1748  If you are interested in seeing something interesting Google "congressional budget office family wealth" and you'll find a report that looks at the years 1989-2019. It was commissioned by Bernie Sanders and is the best kept secret in economics because it utterly condemns main stream politics and economics. Its free to download including the Xcel with the data and graphs and 100% reliable because the CBO is (by law) not allowed to lie to the US Congress. Just looking at the first graph - If you compare 2010 to 2007 you get the effects of the GFC and if you compare that to 2019 you get the recovery. The basics are: The Top 10% lost 11% of their wealth in the GFC but by 2019 were over 21% UP on their 2007 position. The Middle 40% lost 13% of their wealth in the GFC but by 2019 were about 5% UP on their 2007 position. The Bottom 50% LOST 49% of their wealth in the GFC and by 2019 were STILL DOWN OVER 20% Yeah the people who caused the GFC and got bailed out were over US$20trillion better off than they were before the GFC while the people who were hurt most by their behavior had still not recovered. That's the anger and frustration that Trump tapped into with MAGA because HALF (~170million people) of the US population got shafted by 30+ years of neoliberal "greed is good" economics. That's why these people don't care how much Elon Musk tears government departments apart. For Trump, Musk and others government employees are the equivalent of the Jews in 1930s Germany. They are the people to BLAME for what's happened when the reality is they are NOT to blame its the Top 10% Elitists who have mismanaged the country. FYI - I'm Australian but went to college in America. I have checked our family wealth data and it tells the same story. I watch Gary Stevenson, the British Economist, and he's saying the same about Britain. Thomas Piketty and others say similar things. Basically the neoliberals have done this across the entire Developed World, which is (depending on who you include) around 1.2billion people. That means the neoliberals have thrown around 600milliion people into the gutter while chanting how great the OVERALL picture is. Economists are not the solution to our economic problems. Economists are the problem.
