  2. HEY ALISTAIR In respect to you comments on things Canada sells into America. I'm an Australian engineer but was in Canada (Saskatchewan) for work in late 2017 early 2018. I was there when Trump hit Canada with tariffs for the first time. It was totally unexpected and the Canadians were stunned. All I could think of was: If Trump will do this to Canada, who has done NOTHING, then what will he do to people he doesn't like or who upset him? Back then I think Trump used Canada a sacrifice play to get everyone else "off step" and on the back foot. It certainly had Canada on the back foot and Australian's had no idea what to make of it. This time I think its a case of: This is what happens when you upset me or wont bow down to me. So the question is: What do you do back with the school yard bully which is what Trump is? As an engineer I can tell you that Alberta and Saskatchewan are huge to America as they supply BOTH oil and potash which used as a fertiliser. Its very important to understand that Canadian crude is heavy sour crude from which you get things like tar, bitumen, grease,...... as well other things but it also has lots of other things which its why its called sour. The huge shale fields in the Dakotas produce light sweet crude and has very little of the heavier petroleum products but is fantastic if you want things like gasoline, jet fuel,...etc and it has very few other things which is why its called sweet. The important point is that oil refineries are built they are built to handle specific types of crude without much variation. So those refineries built for Canadian Crude cannot use Dakota sweet light crude. So those refineries MUST keep buying Canadian crude or find another source (not easy). I think the best thing Canada can do is put EXPORT TARIFFS on Canadian heavy crude oil. Something like a $10/barrel export tariff. Someone else also pointed to me when I suggested this that its even worse for America if Canada slaps an export tariff on potash as something like 95% of all the potash sold in America to American farmers comes from Canada. After Canada the next 3 largest producers of Potash are Russia, Belarus and China. So something like a $100/ton export tariff on potash would also slap America and slap it damn hard, because there is no alternative to Canadian potash.
