That is one of the best comments I have seen in a while because it goes straight to the heart of the matter. If you take a massive slab of the population and give them no hope of a decent life they will eventually become disaffected. Scottish Professor Mark Blyth who's at Brown U. in America co-authored a book called Angrynomics. He had several variations of the definition of Angrynomics but one was "the effect generated when most people in a country no longer believe that the economy benefits them" Another was "the state where people believe the economic system is rigged against them." Nobody should've been surprised when a massive slab of the British population said "FK IT" and voted to do Brexit. Nobody should have really been surprised when a massive block of young disaffected men in America said "FK IT" and voted to do Trump. The only people who don't get WHY are the clown brigade on the left with too many PhDs and not enough common sense.

Great point I'm Australian but went to college in America (late 80s) I did aerospace engineering but a bunch of my friends were pre-law and we had many discussions about the US system. I used to argue (because it was all I had) that Orwell warned (in 1984 & Animal Farm) that any nation could all into a totalitarian dictatorship. They used to argue back that it was impossible for that to happen in America because of the "System of Checks & Balances." These days I honestly believe the US Constitution is one of humanities finest achievements. No other constitution grants ALL of its people the freedoms that the US Constitution does. HOWEVER ITS NOT PERFECT and IT HAS FLAWS. One of those flaws (and maybe the most important) is that its wide open for nefarious people to exploit the freedoms its grants. That's what we are seeing these days.

@germansnowman There was a great comment by Marxist economist Richard Wolff a couple of years ago regarding WHY blue collar people voted for Trump in 2016. Its best if you hear him say it. The video is titled "Panel 3 THE MICHAEL BROOKS TRIBUTE SERIES: Mark Blyth, Ben Burgis, & Richard Wolff & David Griscom" the comment about WV starts at 52:51
