  1. It depends if they are present in the ore. Like any of these by-product resources its dependent on the ore body and also the concentrations in that orebody. I've spent most of the last 20 years in the mining industry doing control systems and EVERY ore body is different. Germanium isn't present in all zinc ores. According to Wikipedia its most prevalent in what's called Mississippi Valley type deposits. Mt Isa the worlds 3rd largest zinc mine isn't that type but MacArthur river probably is looking at the maps. There's the refinery in Tasmania but who knows what type of ore they process. I checked for Gallium and there's a real possibility Australia does have some capacity because we have a number of Alumina refineries. There's a bunch in Western Australia south of Perth and one in the Perth area at Kwinana. We also had one at Gove in the NT where I spent some time for work.

  2. Actually this issue of purging in China and that Peter has also pointed out in that Peter has done in Russia does have a Western equivalent. Boris Johnson cleaned out any competition from the British Tory party which is why they were left with Liz Truss. The Australian Libs (funded by Rupert Murdoch) did similar to the Brits and is why they are pretty pathetic right now. BOTH the American Democrats and Republicans have purged themselves. The Democrats got rid of anyone who would not submit to their corporate interests and the Republicans got rid of anyone with a functioning brain. I suspect people will be able to tell us about all sorts of other parties that have similarly purged their ranks of independent brain function so that certain people can maintain control.
