And of interest in the fertilizer issue just yesterday the YT algorithm flagged me a story from the Financial Times titled "Fighting agricultural pollution in England’s waterways." There's a 2019 Report that says only 14% of Britain's rivers are in good health and farm run-off is a major contributor. And I didn't mention it but farm run-off is a major problem in parts of Australia too.

Your 100% right. I'm Australian and despite having an extraordinary amount of space most of our farmlands are not very fertile and require vast amounts of fertilizer. But then we also have some staggering issues with river management and there's no way to get into fixing that because there's too many vested interests with staggering amounts of money behind them. To deal with the shortages in potash that Peter has mentioned on several occasions we have re-opened several potash mines here. We also have a massive deposit in the Norther territory that's untouched. I know about that deposit because I have worked in our mining industry and the company with the rites to that deposit was at one time in the office next to where I worked. Overall Australia's land management is an ongoing cluster f*ck that we should be ashamed of and instead we do the collective ignorance routine and just hope someone will magically fix it. On the New Zealand side I don't know that much other than seeing a story a couple of years ago about how their rivers and creeks are suffering a huge amount from their intensive dairy industry. The ground is so lush there they can put a lot of cows in paddocks and cows pee and all that cow peer filters down and ends up in the rivers & creeks which now have very high levels of ammonia that's causing huge amounts of damage.
