For Peters NEXT tank video he needs to CLARIFY WHAT HE MEANS, because as an Australian I know we have been operating the M1 Abrams for over a decade (since 2007) and I am pretty sure we don't send them back to America every time they need service. Australia has 59 of the M1A1 variant but we have ordered more and there is an upgrade plan in place as well, but that is NOTHING. The Egyptians have 1,130 M1A1, The Saudis have 373 M1A2S, Kuwait has 218 M1A2 and Iraq 321 M1A1M just to name a few. I am fairly certain NONE of those countries send their tanks back to America for servicing either. HOWEVER. The US operates the latest variants. These are the Systems Enhancement Packages (SEP) variants which are now up to up to version 3. America has 1,605 M1A2 SEPv2 and 154 M1A2 SEPv3. There are some 3,700 A1M1 and other variants in storage. Plus the Marines are dropping the Abrams all together as part of their "Force Design 2030" program. So my bet is America will pull some of its OLDER M1A1 variants that have NOT been upgraded and send those to Ukraine. That will still be a challenge as the Abrams uses a gas turbine NOT a diesel engine.
