I remember Simon Sharma in one of his History of Britain Series pointed out that every British Town on the Eastern Half of Britain that ends in the letters "by" was settled (or named) or taken and then renamed by the Vikings. Apparently it means "village" so Whitby is White village, Northby is North village, Southby is South village,...... etc. There's also the Shetlands which still have various Scandinvian festivals was once Pictish but the Vikings took that as well. And they now know as Peter describes traders as well as raiders and set up trading posts all across Britain and Ireland and traded with people as far away as Spain and North Africa.

@daniellarson3068 Buddy I was in Canada late 2017 in Saskatchewan when they had a cold snap that lasted 3 days. I'm an engineer and was on site for a project. The other guys had gone back to Regina for a couple of days over Xmas. I woke up 1 morning and EVERY channel was flashing a severe weather alert. The numbers for they day were morning -30C, afternoon -28C and evening -32C with anywhere up to -50C. I switched to the news and they said "Don't go outside unless is absolutely necessary. Hospitals are already reporting the first amputations." I called the guys I was working with who were about 400km away in Regina. They said don't touch any metal that is connected to the outside like the front door knob or I could lose my hand. At those temperatures skin sticks to metal like its coated in super glue. There was a young cop living across the street and he checked on me each day. Yeah Canadians really are that polite. In those 3 days 14 of the 15 coldest temperatures on the planet were all recorded in central Canada and I was right in the middle of that zone. It was colder than the North Pole. So yeah buddy I do appreciate what our weather is like in Australia.
