@kevinrusch3627 Your 1/2 right the Russians initially needed outside assistance in WW2, but once they got their industry up and running in Siberia the Germans were done, because they just couldn't stop the Russians from supplying the front lines. I'm an aerospace engineer and the Russians didn't have the best planes but what they did have was numbers and reliability. The Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik might not have been brilliant but in the ground support role it was outstanding. The Yaks and Migs might not have been as advanced as the P-51 and Spitfire but they got the job done. Also the German pilots had to be very careful with which Yaks they encountered. The Yak-3 below 5,000m was lethal and the Luftwaffe ordered pilots to avoid them. I remember a documentary on WW2 tanks and there was a German General who after examining a T34 noted that if the Russians could build enough it was over. The T34 had many common parts to their trucks. It was simple while the Tigers were complex and needed a team of mechanics to keep running. Simplicity was also what made the Sherman effective. I'd agree that early on the Russian's were in trouble, but nor so much later.
