@blaq7892 Go back a bit in western history and this was actually the norm. Girls were married off very young. Basically once they became able to have children they got married. Most often it was to older men for the simple reason they had survived enough battles and disease to prove themselves worthwhile. You actually don't have to go back that far either. The idea that girls waited until their mid 20s to get married and to men their own age is a post world war 2 thing. Because it was only in this modern era that girls started finishing high school and going college. Both my parents were high school teachers and I remember my mother describing this. I know it sounds weird but historically we aren't that far from some fairly weird ideas.

I think you are probably right she was around 21/22 when they got married and that's not illegal anywhere. There's links on his Wikipedia page to the announcement of the engagement. She was a senior in college when the engagement was announced. Everyone can be all sorts of critical but its not illegal anywhere. Its questionable but not anywhere as close to what Matt Gaetz was up to. Its not even that close to the sugar daddy stuff that goes on. This might not be a good story to use about what's actually happening in Tennessee

@QuixoticPotato I understand your story and its far from unique. But successful marriages are built because 2 people choose to make it work and put the effort into making it work. A number of years ago a friend of mine's marriage hit the rocks real hard. A mutual friend who was a few years older than us commented that I should take note that marriages don't simply work you have to put in the effort to make it work. He said there are few things as insidious as taking your partner for granted and that things will just workout. We were into cars at that stage and he said its like dumping a pile of nuts & bolts on the floor and expecting a car to magically appear. I have seen too many friends fall into lazy habits and take their partner for granted and then paid for it. Age never seemed to have much to do with it.

@dixieporter2960 before I explode back at you lets just get some facts right. I have NOT ignored that he started grooming her in high school. I am NOT saying what happened historically justifies what he has done. I have NOT made any claims or statements that what he has done is acceptable. I merely pointed out that society has changed which its done again and again through history. But if you ignore history you are also ignoring context. So you can F-OFF on both statements. Go and read what people say before you blast off and gas light people.
