  1. You are referring to the "Gimli Glider" and that was actually a mistake by an air re-fueler. But it is the pilots responsibility to make sure the plane is ready for flight and they got that part wrong. As for using dip sticks - ALL PILOTS CHECK THE TANKS with DIP STICKS before flight. Gauges can fail dip sticks can't and its a way to check the gauges before the flight starts.

  3. Dude the Gimli glider mistake was by an air-refueler NOT THE PILOT. The pilots should have checked to be sure it is their responsibility to make sure the plane is ready for flight.
