@alicspellman6938 Good follow up point.

As an aerospace engineer that's a good explanation. I see this guy as yet another person trying to fit and adjust terminology to suit their argument. I don't know about you but I ma getting tired of them for the simple reason they create confusion among the general population. He's trading something that's NOT even good enough to be called a theory. Its a hypothesis and very typical of philosophy students. They do one thing better than engineers - get air time. We just don't seem capable of getting air time. Its one of the major issues I have with media people - they just don't care about accurately informing people.

@brucemacmillan9581 2 Words - Fermi Paradox Go look it up. Also in our solar system there's Venus, Europa, Titan, Enceladus and others with complex chemistry that could produce odd forms of life that have no relation or analog to life here.

@brucemacmillan9581 If you want to a sensible conversation with people then don't be a DK-HED. I did aerospace engineering and 35 years ago (1987) we had a NASA alum do a special lecture one day. He'd just completed a study of what it would take to terraform Mars and had a 1 word conclusion: "Impossible" Just on basic volumes and mechanics, like the volume of air need, how to get it there and then heat it up from -60C to 20C the numbers are insane in any reasonable time period. And that's before you get into the real tricky stuff like how do you keep that breathable atmosphere on the planet once you've got it there. Just minor points like spinning up the core of the planet so that it has a magnetic field to keep the solar wind from stripping away that atmosphere. AND well before any of that we need to know how to build a functioning self sustaining ecosystem and so far EVERY attempt at that has failed and in some cases failed spectacularly. So buckwheat I've known for over 30 years what's possible and what's not. That has nothing to with possible life anywhere.

@brucemacmillan9581 Agreed. If you want an interesting thought on the question are we alone on the universe try this. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or evolution we are not alone. If you believe in god (or gods) then you believe that there are other non-humans that exist - angels, cherubs, demons, etc. If you believe in evolution then according to probability and that we now know how many planets exist. Plus from some of the really odd places on Earth, we know life can exist in extreme environments where other life just can't. You actually have to be in a tiny minority who believe in evolution but also that it is so rare that we are the only place in the universe where life exists. The real question isn't are we alone, its "Where are they and can they help us?"

@brucemacmillan9581 Your opening remark is stupid because it ignores the reality of 100s of tribes, societies and cultural groups. You don't have to agree or like with what they believe but you MUST accept that they do believe. That said you at least got to a parallel of the right conclusion. It doesn't matter if we are alone or not. WE (as in humanity) must find a way to take responsibility for our future. Right now we (as a species) are going through the equivalent of post-puberty high school blues when we a combination of confused yet think we know what we want but have a way too simplistic idea on how to get there. Plus the high school bully and his clown brigade are in full rampage mode. By that I mean our political and business classes (usually referred to as the "top 1%" or "1 percenters") are totally out of control. It doesn't matter if you want to discuss Putin, the American billionaire class or Xi Jinping - they're all out of control schoolyard bullies.

@brucemacmillan9581 I joke about that all the time. Where are the aliens? Quick answer: Hiding from us. Long Answer: Working out how to build a barrier around the solar system to keep us in.

@supportingthetroops1623 WTF are you referring to? Which part of the conversation are you talking about?
