  1. I'm Australian but went to college in America in the late 80s. It used to stun me how well educated EVERY AMERICAN was on basic civics. By comparison it was almost embarrassing how well Americans understood their nation. Its not that those sorts of classes weren't available to me in Australia but they were optional and I was a math science geek who ended up an engineer. But these days I am stunned how badly Americans understand their nation and their constitution. I have been told George Bush 2.0 cut all the funding for civics AND IT SHOWS. And before you ask - YES we have some of these problems too, but not to this extent, but we are getting there.
