Its basically where you vote for anyone else as a way of protesting against a party. A recent famous case was in Australia where the Prime Minister John Howard lost his seat to an independent back in 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Howard#2007_election The voters went back to normal a couple of years later, but the message was if you annoy us enough we wont care and simply throw you out. Its something many radicals do around the world. They get people to vote for them as a way of protesting/ What Trump did in 2016 was create a massive protest against the establishment. What he's done since and more recently is inexcusable. His followers need to accept that they made a significant protest against the establishment, but its now time to move on.
