Its not just oil its fundamentally about energy supply. Fundamentally everything that happens in the modern world needs energy at some point either to make it or deliver it or both. We so often forget in the western world that our wealth has come from cheap energy. Our major problem is that we haven't kept up with demand as our populations grow. Anyone who did Economics 101 knows that if supply doesn't keep up with demand then prices go up. One of the biggest issues that has made the West uncompetitive is that our energy costs have climbed while China has had simply accessed its massive coal resources and kept the productions costs down.
