  1. Vice news has done several recent vid stories on these people (see below). The second one highlights the story of a guy who is genuinely in a bad situation. Honestly considering how and why his child was taken - its wrong, but its also a complex case. What's way worse is how a clown named David Straight promotes this sovereign citizen concept. He's taking advantage of vulnerable people and got them so confused over some basic definitions and basic concepts that they have no idea of reality. What they have totally been mislead about is that if you are located within the border of a sovereign state you are subject to the laws of that state. Being a citizen, resident, guest, tourist is irrelevant. The guy who lost his child actually claims that by changing his status from "American citizen" to "American national" he will be granted limited diplomatic immunity. That's how evil people like David Straight are. He's charging people for some idiotic notion that does not exist. Diplomatic immunity only exists when 2 (or more) SOVEREIGN STATES agree by means of a treaty to give each others diplomats various levels of immunity. NO INDIVIDUAL can simply decide they are immune from prosecution. Otherwise Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy and others could have just declared themselves sovereign citizens and walked out of jail.
