I'm Australian but went to college in the late 80s. I tried explaining back then what you just described and they didn't get it. One thing America has never had was a MAIN political party that was started from within the labor movement. Australia, Canada, Britain, New Zealand all have Labour parties that started among their trade unions hence the name Labour. France, Italy and others had (and still do) communist and socialist parties also that started from the peasant & worker classes. America has the Dems that started in the South and was the "Rebel Party" and helped found the KKK only sided with the unions after the great depression as a way of gaining votes. The slid to the left but not very far and time and time again have dumped the unions in favor of supporting corporate agendas. The Republicans were the "mild right" ones who under Lincoln freed the slaves. It was only under Reagan when they sided with the Southern fundamentalists to gain votes that they started sliding to the right which they have never stopped. So forgive the Americans for not understanding what the rest of us know as left-v-right politics, because except for the ones who have lived in other places they haven't any experience with the concept. I know I tried explaining to then what the Australian Labour party was about and they thought I was crazy. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

@rftulie A couple of years back I saw a doco (or news item) on the effects of what the GOP did way back in the early 90s with removing or downgrading campaign finance controls. The GOP did it to enable them to tap into their wealthy fossil fuel donors with less restriction. It worked then it rot started to follow. By the mid 2000s most elected officials in Washington were spending at least 20 and many over 40hours a week trying to raise money to defend their seats at the next election IRRESPECTIVE of how many years away it was. During the Obama years they passed LESS legislation than any other time in the modern era. What it pointed out was they are spending so much time raising money they aren't spending the time doing the job they were elected to do. The concern is that political parties in other countries like Australia have tried to go down the same path. Half the problem is that ALL MAINSTREAM media promotes or lobbies or advocates this position because they see the advertising dollars.

@rftulie We got the story here in OZ about the time American politicians were spending raising money when some of ours tried to do the same here with campaign finance laws. So many of these stories are mirrored across the entire Western World. A few years back when the Panama Papers broke and it included around 1200 prominent Australians we all waited for the hammers to drop. They never did. In 2017 I was in Canada for work and the Paradise Papers created an almost identical (except for the accent) story. The hammers never dropped there either. My time in Canada was at times so weird because the politics was so identical in terms of news cycles and point scoring. If it wasn't for the snow and accents I would have been truly confused by it all.

Do you even know what that means? At its most basic it means that there are functions of a society where its been decided that everyone should collectively pay for it. Like a basic public education system is actually a social function and because its paid for collectively its socialist in nature. The same can be said for the police, army, fire brigade, sheriffs offices, garbage collectors,.... All those things can be privatized and through most of history WERE privately owned or privately controlled. Think of the Lord of the manor and his men at arms just like Game of Thrones. Communism at its most basic is the collective ownership of assets. Not state ownership but collective ownership. Things like tractors, trucks, grain storage facilities. Capitalism at its most basic is the right to own an enterprise for the purpose of making money and gathering wealth through trade. The blacksmiths of history were all capitalists who took raw materials added value through work and sold it at as products at prices with the intent of making money. The real problem with the concepts of capitalism, socialism, communism,.... etc. which have been practiced in various forms for 1000s of years is when they switch from being functions of society to functions of government. Because at that point it always ends up with a tiny minority having all the power and all the wealth. Half the problem are the experts who twist this stuff into unintelligible brain wipe. Both my parents were high school teachers and I used to hate when they explained all this shit to me.

It would also help if the Dems actually run a candidate against her. She won her seat unopposed because the Dem candidate withdrew before the election.

I don't know about murderous but certainly a dictator. And for the entire Western World her type are our biggest threat going forward. For sure Russia, China and other threats will still be with us but sometimes the greatest threat isn't from the outside its from within.
