  1. Yeah - you're pretty much right. The problem with BOTH is when people take it too far and it becomes toxic. Its like comparing champagne and moonshine. Sure you can say one is more cultured and refined than the other but if take too much its still just as toxic.

  2.  @davidmacy411  I think you're 90% right. Its not so much that the Left use patriotism and the Right use nationalism because they both use some of the other to help push it. You can't push patriotism without having nationalism. You can't push nationalism without having patriotism. Plus they flip that stuff around when it suits. I think one of the things where the poly-sci people have completely screwed up is they have tried to push a "political map" that's a flat sheet. Just like a map of the world might be convenient when its flat the reality is we're on a globe. Here's an interesting thing about living on a globe. If you go east or west, no matter how different the journey you end up in the same place if go far enough. I think Left and Right politics are the same when they go too far. No matter what path or the labels they use it ends up in the same place. A shitty authoritarian state that professes to be free and fair and love its people but they're never free, never fair and NEVER CARE SQUAT ABOUT PEOPLE. Do you really think the people in power and their armies of bureaucrats, lawyers & bankers give a damn about you, me or anyone else?
