I'm Australian, I went to college in America I have many American friends. On one hand I worry about those friends and where this is all headed for them and their families. On the other hand as an Australian we have to ask ourselves where this leaves us. America has been our main security and trading partner for 70+ years. Every time you started a war or went to war we were with you. It was incredibly bad when the Bush White House lied and dragged us into the Iraq War that was stupid on everyone's part. I personally maintain that going to Afghanistan was the right thing to do. The Taliban Government had allowed OBL and his band of fanatics safe refuge from which they attacked our ally. But with Trump showing that its possible for POTUS to just tear up treaties as he did WITHOUT any consequence. We just bought a fleet of F35s plus other future air force purchases and committed to MULTIPLE PROGRAMS and tied our future security to America. What are we meant to think if we now know that its possible for POTUS to simply tear up treaties. What if the next POTUS simply denies us spare parts because he didn't like something that was said? I was working in Canada when Trump tore up NAFTA and put tariffs on Canadian products. If Trump was willing to simply F--K Canada over then what might a future POTUS do to Australia on a whim?

@Rain-Dirt Its called being a narcissistic sociopath - extremely self centered with no empathy for others. I think your right on Biden all he ever was, was the DNCs way of keeping power among the elitists of the party. Did you know the 2 places most mentioned in the DNC email hoard were Martha's Vineyard and the Hamptons followed in 3rd place by New York. Both Clintons and both Obamas are Ivy League. The upper echelon of the DNC is so stuck up themselves with this insane elitism. Biden was a way to keep the progressives out. Nothing more. The best line I saw on him was: Joe Boden is the normal that got Trump elected. IF THE DNC DOES NOT WAKE UP they are going to hand America back to the Trumpists in 2022 and then the White House in 2024. It might not be Donald but it could be something worse. What might go against that is Trump himself tearing the GOP apart.

@waynet8953 The classic when you look at the F35 is one of the aircraft it was to replace was the A10. First off the air force has tried to kill off the A10 for decades, but the Army canned that every time because there simply hasn't been a better close support system deployed since. From and engineering perspective the case study to compare the A10 and F35 is amazing. On one hand you have the plane that was designed to do everything and has ended up doing few of those things well at all. Versus the plane that was designed for a specific role and does it so well that 50 years after first being conceived they are building a new batch. Then there is the supply chain issue that the VOX video goes into. That video and what Anna refers too is pretty common knowledge. Particularly the stuff about how the F35 project has bits made 46 of 50 US states. That means 92 out of 100 Senators would be voting against jobs in their state if they try and cancel it. Its been done before but never to that extent. Its was Lockheed's response to getting the F22 cancelled. And its that supply chain that is the real problem. No matter what system you want to talk about - if its hard to maintain its a monumental problem in a war. Even the USAF can't get the spares it needs to keep its F35 fleet flying. So what chance does Australia or anyone else have. One of the main reasons Germany lost WW2 was because they OVER RELIED on things like the Tiger Tank. Yes it was almost invincible, but it was incredibly expensive, took a huge amount of labor to build and was hell to maintain. In the end the Germans didn't have enough tanks ACTUALLY fighting and they simply got overwhelmed. Think of car racing and in any category there have been many incredibly fast cars, but too many of those have been fragile. Fragile cars might win some races but they don't win enough races to win championships. Military history should have warned EVERYONE that the F35 was a dud from day one.

@waynet8953 Have a look at what elected officials are doing all across the Western Democratic World and its the same thing again and again. Add there are some unbelievable outcomes happening. As said I'm in Australia and we just had a state election in Western Australia, which traditionally has been incredibly conservative. Its an enormous state with a small population and incredible wealth from mining. Its wealth per capita makes Texas look poor. In Australia the Liberal Party is our mild right (similar to the Dems) with the Nationals being the more conservative (similar to the GOP). The Labour Party is our left. At the last Federal election (just before COVID) the Liberal-National Coalition won. Here's the results -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa4EFD2CBPc The liberals have been so annihilated they might actually drop below the threshold where they get funding as a party. In Oz to get automatic funding as a political party you have to get a certain number elected. They currently control our federal parliament and just got wiped in a historically conservative state. In America this would be like the Dems almost wiping the GOP out of the Texas State house.
