Here's 2 more classics from Isaac. “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” - Isaac Asimov, Newsweek “They won't listen. Do you know why? Because they have certain fixed notions about the past. Any change would be blasphemy in their eyes, even if it were the truth. They don't want the truth; they want their traditions.” - Isaac Asimov, Pebble in the Sky

@brianwall9592 Yeah I started reading him back in the late 80s at college. His brilliance in the Foundation series is still unparalleled. And parts of it are RIGHT NOW incredibly relevant. I'm an engineer and there's a huge issue with engineering education. They graduate all chipper in CAD and 3D-printing and precision machining centres, *but they have utterly no REAL grasp of what it actually takes to build anything. There's an incredible array of fundamental things they just have NO GRASP OF. I think its in the second Foundation novel one of the people from the Foundation goes to check out some nearby planets. Most are wrecked but there was one still with power stations and what looked like a technical society. BUT then it became obvious that all the people called engineer, doctor, dentist, etc. were NOT educated at all and their job was actually an inherited title. It was actually one of Asimov's key points that if education stagnates or declines then your society WILL FAIL because you wont be able to maintain its basic services. I can absolutely confirm that one of the biggest problems facing the Western World right now are power stations closely followed by water treatment (clean and waste) systems. WHY? Because all the decisions are being made by people with NO EDUCATION on what it takes to build maintain and replace those systems. Asimov was RIGHT.

@brianwall9592 The worst of the worst are HR who are basically people who only just got into college and were so far down the food chain they did HR because on day 1 they got told that they would have control of the careers of all the talented people who got real degrees. If you want an interesting read try: Angrynomics by Mark Bluth and Eric Lonergan.

Glenn Kirschner the lawyer pointed out a while back some basic courtroom tactics. When you have evidence on your side, then pound away at the evidence. When you have the truth on your side, then pound away at the truth. When you don't have evidence or truth on you side, then pound away on the table claiming anything you can and keep pounding in the hope that everyone gets worn down and eventually gives up in exasperation.
