Actually your second point about data collection was part of the focus by a recent ABC Australia expose about Tik Tok. Here's the specific part -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhLQv5MzNj0 Here's the extended story -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwu5C8JWO_k I'm an engineer and if I just consider some of the basic functions of Tik Tok like location monitoring, microphone access and camera access you get to a chilling conclusion. Its a portable version of the surveillance system that George Orwell described in 1984. There's a horrifying aspect to Chinese Corporate Law that came up during the 5G debate when Huawei was trying to tell everyone their data was safe. Under Chinese law any corporation registered in China MUST COMPLY with all information requests from the Chinese Communist Party. Its actual Chinese law that if the CCP wants the data Tik Tok has on a user then Tik Tok MUST hand over the data. So if your the parent of a Western teenager with Tik Tok on their phone then the CCP already has a data file on your family.

@piotrtrebisz6602 I'm an Australian engineer and one of my past employers was the local agent for Kuka Robots. I could not believe the recent news that Kuka had been sold to a Chinese company. I was also stunned to learn that another company that makes CPUs was also sold off to a Chinese company. So the Chinese don't steal everything. Sometimes people are just idiotically stupid and sell off all the IP and all the assets as they chase a bonus. I am staggered that sale was ever allowed to go through. What happened to German pride in their engineering? The stupidity, short mindedness and greed of the Western business class is going to end our countries.

@piotrtrebisz6602 Damn - I didn't know that. Yeah like so many other things people never considered what might happen in future. In Australia all major purchases of Australian assets by foreign entities is supposed to be independently checked and approved by a special board. We have found out in recent years its totally useless. 2 of our major ports are now controlled by the Chinese. People who should not be allowed to own our farms are being allowed to buy them without any restraints. The Americans have started to find out that the 1st Amendment was a beautiful gift to their people from the founding fathers, BUT they never considered Rupert Murdoch or Fox News might one day exist. its amazing how many things are done where nobody considers the consequences.

@piotrtrebisz6602 I missed your Kuka comment before. Your right on all accounts as I sort of described. And its not just Darwin. The Chinese also control New Castle and the Indians Control Hay Point. One of our 3 major power suppliers is 60% Chinese and 40% Singaporean. We have a national obsession with selling off or leasing critical infrastructure to foreign entities DESPITE laws and rules and governance that's meant to stop it.

@piotrtrebisz6602 That's the best battery story I have heard this decade. Did they find out who CATL stole the technology from in the first place? The Kuka deal still sucks. That's a staggering loss of IP.

@piotrtrebisz6602 I have ridden that Maglev back in 2017. 311 kmh so smooth the speed wasn't perceivable. It was at night so there wasn't any visual reference. In Australia we have had huge numbers of Chinese and Indian university students and they steal everything they can get. On suing Chinese companies in China over IP and trademark theft, a couple of Australian companies have actually succeeded.

@piotrtrebisz6602 Good point on the Russians. The entire Chinese manned space program is based on Soyuz tech. Their new space station is a derivation of MIR. What scares me about the Chinese is their level of ignorance. Just recently a clownish CCP troll made the claim they would blow the American Navy out of the water because the US navy didn't know how to fight anymore and that the PLAN fresh from significant victories over Vietnam and Taiwan were battle hardened. Yeah they actually made those claims. People who are that ignorant tend to make enormous mistakes like starting wars.

@danielm5161 If you said "some" instead of "most" your comment would be correct. At their core progressives have always been people who want to see progress - hence the term progressive. But like all similar terms like conservatives, left center and right, it covers a very broad spectrum of people. Like every political spectrum it includes people with blind spots. In fact you'll find almost every person on the planet has some blind spots its just that some people have giant huge blind spots.

Sky Gardener Please go back and read you comment. There's a few parts that don't make sense. One trick with proof reading is to imagine your reading your comment to another person. I suggest you remove the part about bombing places before you get reported and banned.

@piotrtrebisz6602 On all points I'd agree, but I'd give one caveat. Xi Jinping has staked his domestic popularity on Belt & Road and that includes getting Taiwan back under CCP control. Its one of those things populists trap themselves with - making a bold claim on something and then FAILING to get it. It can shatter their base so every so often they force themselves into something. The Argentine military Junta famously did it over the Falkland Islands. China has a few huge issues that will eventually start to hit it. The 1st is already here with its idiotic ghost cities locking up insane amounts of money. The 2nd is the one child policy that skewed the size of a generation that can't just be fixed easily. 3rd that one child generation is horribly skewed towards males because of the Chinese cultural tradition of having a male carry on the family name. Remember they had those 30million orphaned girls at one stage. My mother was a high school teacher with history being one of her majors. She told me over 25 years ago that the one child policy would come back to haunt China. She was very concerned that the over emphasis on males would lead to a war. Nations where the fighting men (20-30) outnumbered the available women have a history of going to war. If your the king and you have a surplus of angry frustrated men its an easy solution to attack someone. Plus - lets not forget China has been on a 20 year program of building the biggest army and navy in history. And they wind their people up with these massive military parades. That's not to say anything is inevitable but the recipe is there for a monstrous clash. Its like having a giant pile of explosives. So long as nobody throws a match its not a problem.
