  2.  @WillBravoNotEvil  Have you seen any of Stephanie Kelton's explanations for MMT? At first I thought she was bat crap crazy and then eventually realised she was right. Mark Blyth consistently reminds people that our debts are the banks assets. Things like our home loans are on the DEBT side of our balance sheets BUT those loans are on the ASSET side of the banks balance sheet. Its all a matter of perspective. Stephanie Kelton did this really simple demo where she showed that government deficit (& debt) is also PUBLIC SURPLUS. its just a matter of who's balance sheet you look at. What she's pointed out is that the government isn't like us as it can print money. Its controversial because it shows how much we've been lied to these last 40+ years by the neo-liberals, their elitist money and their neo-con jackboots. The neo-cons weren't really new they were just neo-liberals stormtroopers in disguise. I have thought about her demo and its quite explaining the basics. What she didn't show was HOW & WHERE that surplus mostly ENDS UP. That's what the elites really don't want people to figure out let alone understand.
