You're 4/5ths right. Putin was never intimidated by Donny, but what the Russians like to have is a predictable person in the White House. Its been the Russian thing for decades. Russia plays the unpredictable superpower while America plays the predictable superpower. Trump actually messed that dynamic up. There's been a few really good Russian experts comment on that and a few suggested the real aim of the 2016 interference was never to get Trump elected but to make Clinton's WH a scandalised mess by continuously releasing information and putting her into conflict with a Republican controlled House & Senate. With Biden in the WH America is again predictable and that makes this sort of action by Putin possible.

Actually NO. There was some really great commentary by a few Russian born commentators about 2016. They put forward the idea that Putin's real game was to interfere with a Clinton White House by continuously releasing scandalous information and setting her into conflict with a Republican controlled House and Senate. If you think about it Putin hated Clinton because she was the one who imposed sanctions on Russia as Sec State. If she'd been in the WH and then it was just an endless stream of leaks with the GOP going bonkers. Some of the actual Russian born analysts who understand Russian culture have been really good at explaining this stuff. I wish people like David would talk to them.
