@pjfx9436 Well then why are you watching anything David Pakman produces? Or do you like being full of shite.

@aylbdrmadison1051 I don't what you replied to but you are on a very interesting point in that American politics are all to the right of the political spectrum when compared to any other part of the Western Democratic World. I'm Australian but went to college in America in the late 80s. I tried explaining back then that America had a right wing party and a far right wing party and they just don't get it. The concept of left wing political parties doesn't exist in America and never really did. Both the Democrats and Republicans are founded on right wing principals and ideologies. Most people forget that Lincoln (who freed the slaves) was a Republican and at that time the Democrats were the far right racist radicals who eventually produced the KKK. Its only been since WW2 that the Republicans shifted more to the right and the Democrats became more moderate. The Republicans (particularly under Reagan) aligned themselves with the Southern Evangelists and haven't stopped driving that as a way to win elections. The Dems aligned themselves with the unions during the "New Deal" era but never became anything like the Labour parties of Britain, Australia, Canada,... etc. The problem is that so few Americans spend anytime outside America long enough to get a better perspective. Being honest the years I spent in America were the best eye opener I could have gotten on where Australia lies politically. It gave me an alternative perspective to experience and see how others saw my country and where it sits politically in the world.

Good comment and it was a good interview but I wish David had dug deeper. If America is going to discuss the meritocracy then the best example is the Federalist Society who believe that they alone with their superior education have the right to decide who can and who can't be on the Supreme Court. The Federalist Society was founded by people from Harvard the same college Prof Sandel teaches at. It would have been great to here him talk about groups and organizations like the Federalist Society. Prof Sandel actually teaches at the place that is essentially the grand temple of the meritocracy and it would have been great for him to discuss that.

@marcevan1141 Thanks, I think David's a fairly good interviewer but he needs to go a bit longer and dig a little deeper at times. I've watched Marshall and Sagaar do a few long play interviews recently on their channel "The Realignment." They do go longer (typically about an hour) and do dig deeper but even they don't question for clarification at times. They just did one the other day with Elbridge Colby and he started talking about "classical liberals vs neo-cons" but they never got him to explain what HIS definitions of the 2 are and give better context. Same thing here David could have dug a little deeper at times and clarify points. Why is a Harvard Professor writing about the meritocracy when Harvard is the center of the meritocracy?
