If you are a billionaire tycoon and want the government to do what you want then paying for low quality populist candidates who you can manipulate is a very worthwhile investment. Charles Koch actually said in an Axios interview that he expects congressmen to do what he wants when he gets them elected. Thom Hartman made the recent point they (the billionaires) have paid $9 Billion over recent years. Trump's tax cuts delivered them $1 Trillion back to them. That's basically $10 back for every $1 spent. In any business class in the world they are going to tell you that's smart business.
