I half agree with David the emails themselves DO NOT display any clear evidence of a Lab Leak. BUT on the other hand what they display is that Dr. Fauci was far more knowledgeable on what was going on in Wuhan than he let people know. We now know the NIH was involved in funding research in China - see the links below that show NIH funding of COVID research in China. BUT NOTE: None of it clearly states any of this was for "gain of function" research. What Dr; Fauci does needs to explain is why at the START of the pandemic he didn't disclose this funding. IMO - it makes perfect sense for the Chinese to be researching Corona viruses and for other nations including America to be involved. China had already had SARS1 and MERS. So researching potential "what's next" is obvious common sense. Not being open and clear about that at the start was (in hindsight) stupid. Note: The first 2 links below clearly show NIH funding with Peter Daszak (named in the Wade Nichols article) as team leader for research in China. The 3rd is a research paper and if you look for the section on funding you'll find the NIH listed. https://reporter.nih.gov/search/xQW6UJmWfUuOV01ntGvLwQ/project-details/9491676 https://reporter.nih.gov/search/xQW6UJmWfUuOV01ntGvLwQ/project-details/9819304 https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1006698

@aaronburtram3175 I'm actually in the "it wasn't nefarious" camp. And I agree the monetary amounts are irrelevant. But I am also trying to be realistic about the socio-political environment that's just insanely toxic right now. As I have said repeatedly: If you take into consideration the SARS1 & MERS outbreaks its makes perfect sense for the Chinese to be doing the research and for other nations to be involved so they can look at "what's next." Have a look at that research paper and the funding. WHO listed right after the NIH? For all the people who have thrown crap around NONE have mentioned this -> "the USAID Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT) PREDICT program to PD and ZLS" I spotted that the first time I saw this paper (the link for which came from somebody else). Its right there in the section for funding - https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1006698 I think Dr. Fauci has done an incredible job under the worst of toxic socio-politics, BUT HE HASN'T explained a few things well. I don't hold that against him as so many think I do, but we all need to accept he HASN'T told us all he knows. Its also possible he hasn't been told all that he needs know by other people like the Chinese and/or Peter Daszak. I actually empathize with that. As an Engineer who works on projects I have learned to NOT INFORM people at times because I know how certain people are just ready to pounce on anything they can. Try working on a major multidisciplinary project like a mine site (which I've done). You get the different engineering groups setting each other up all the farking time. Its utterly disgusting, totally unprofessional and you can guarantee it will happen on every project. BUT at certain moments you have to tell what you know AND YES it never fails to start a shit fight.

@mypillowguy445 And plus I never saw anybody waving those links about at anytime during that last 12-18 months. Where were the people calling out "what are these projects the NIH funded?" That's right they weren't because it would have been news around the world. "America funds Wuhan Lab" would have been headlines everywhere and it wasn't. So FK-off.

@aaronburtram3175 I know the Chinese better than having worked there. The Chinese people are fine but the Chinese Communist Party are something else entirely. The concept of being wrong or making a mistake does NOT exist. I watched a series on China over the weekend and all of China's problems with demographics, environmental damage, trade and foreign relations all have 1 common thing. The CCP not being able to ever admit something isn't working or is wrong or failed. Most politicians everywhere can't admit they made a mistake but the CCP takes it to another level. Even Trump is second rate to them.

@laurendaryani4893 Sad but fair description. I think the heart of the problem is the DEM-vs-GOP culture war. Its tribalism at its worst. Facts and logic mean nothing. Group/tribal identity and allegiance to the group/tribe has become everything. I have watched a lot of Mark Blyth these last 2 years. Its concerning and quite scary where its heading.
2
@RunForPeace-hk1cu Your on the right track as a few others are concluding. The rational sensible discussions we should have had 12-15 months ago didn't happen because it all got dragged into the DEM-vs-GOP culture war. Hopefully people will start realizing just how destructive the culture war actually is. Its cost 10s of 1000s of lives and that's just the start of what its done.

@mypillowguy445 Publicly available for sure, BUT NOT publicly discussed or we would have been having this conversation 12 months ago.

@lisarenna2023 You've hit 2 really important points. 1: Which email - there's around 10,000. 2" No one actually has a definitive answer at the moment. Just like so many things today there's NOT a definitive answer and might never be a definitive answer. I don't know about you but I get so frustrated when people demand definitive answers to complex problems OR when people take advantage of the lack of a definitive answer. 🤷♂️🤷♀️

@devinspencer1678 I don't disagree with that at all but under the circumstances when Dr. Fauci was unequivocal in stating that there was no gain of function research funded he should clarify what these projects were. In this climate where there is so little trust fueled by the ranting of both social and news media it hasn't helped. People will try and fill in the gaps and look what that does. Even when people agree they're arguing over details. 🤷♂️🤷♀️

@kevinkanter2537 Finally - You've hit it right. Its what I have been trying to get people to see. We HAVEN'T had the discussion we should have had and its due to the culture war that's bee raging. This culture war now has real casualties. How many lives might have been spared and damage NOT happen if this hadn't been dragged down into it? What I can't believe right now there are media people wanting to keep it part of the culture war and use it to keep fueling public outrage from both sides. WTF is wrong with these people?

@mattrogers5188 You made your points and I didn't argue any of them AND YOU still haven't answered my point. WHY HASN'T Dr. Fauci explained what was happening in Wuhan, when he is the one who said in front of congress that it wasn't GoF. We don't know do we. Why is this only now being discussed publicly? We don't know do we. Fine then what were these projects actually doing? We don't know do we. Better still how do we know nothing happened in that lab? We don't know do we. I haven't attacked him with lies have I? In fact I have condemned others for being stupid and dishonest. If you don't like having parrot crap thrown in you face then don't do it to others.

@kapwns You make one of the few sensible and good points. The media misconstruing information and that goes to arguably the biggest issue in the world right now. One journalist recently said words to the effect that "We used to accept the facts and argue on what they meant but now we can't agree on what the facts actually are." I think its lead to so many governments NOT making decisions because of what will happen in the media. Remember that show the "West Wing." I remember them getting polls done for almost anything. They were almost totally consumed at times with what the media presented INSTEAD of DOING THEIR ACTUAL JOBS. Look at the world and it makes you wonder why we can't deal with any of the major issues. The fact is ANY government that tries faces a backlash either from home or abroad. Its like humanity's collective IQ just dropped 50points and replaced it with brainless tribalism.
1
@kapwns Excuse you but Matt Rogers was the ONE cutting and pasting NOT ME. As for him refuting anything - bullshit to that. Did he add some details? YES I'll grant that, but he never refuted anything and NEVER answered the most basic point. Why wasn't this publicly discussed 12-15 months ago? 1 person did have a valid answer to that. In the toxic environment 12-15 months ago it may have been easily misconstrued. That's called thinking you should try it. As for as asking loaded questions they aren't loaded they are just uncomfortable for "Culture Warriors" like you and Matt to answer. Anything "Culture Warriors" don't like or have to think about is taken as an insult and invokes full crap attack mode. Instead of being a "jaq off" why don't you try some brain function.
1
@kapwns Just take the cut an past crap and culture war attitude and simply wake up or FK-off. Its because clowns want to keep the culture war raging is WHY the discussions we should have had never happened. How much longer does this pandemic have to keep going before people realise that its continuing because of the culture war. How many people have to die? Is 3.8million enough for you and some of the other clowns or do we need to make it 4 or maybe 5 million. Seriously WAKE-UP - the culture war your fighting IS THE PROBLEM.
1
@kapwns If I am ranting then your being ignorant of the worst issue on the planet right. Better people than you or me have been pointing out how destructive nature of the groupthink mentality of public discussion. How come others can conclude that the emails and project details are irrelevant compared to the fact they were never discussed when they should have been because the entire public discussion was dominated by the culture arguments? Can you or any of the other culture warriors answer that or isn't 3.8 million dead people enough?
1
@Israel-nb7ip Go see the answer I just gave Never Knows Best. I'll grant all of you him and others one thing - you aren't the cause of the culture war, that's from people like the GOP, Televangelists and Rupert Murdoch. BUT you people are keeping it going by NOT being objective.
1
@mattrogers5188 For sure it was publicly available, I am not claiming that or anything else. BUT Dr. Fauci was in front of congress only days ago unequivocally claiming there was no "gain of function" research in China being funded via the NIH. A couple of days later I see links from another person that show the NIH was funding COVID research in China. I am not saying he was wrong or lied, BUT HE HASN'T explained, in that context, what these other projects were. EVERY TIME I have posted those links I have also said the in my opinion (IMO) considering the previous outbreaks of SARS1 and MERS that China researching these viruses makes sense and that other countries being involved also makes sense . WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHY THAT LINK TO THE WUHAN LAB WAS NOT PUBLICLY DISCUSSED 12-15 MONTHS AGO. If you want something truly suspicious Peter Daszak was one of the very few people the Chinese let in to investigate. That's a clear conflict of interest. Plus he is a proponent of gain of function. 🤷♂️🤷♀️ I personally think that Dr. Fauci has the worst job on the planet right now. He's been attacked and screamed at from both the left and right. Nothing he says will satisfy either, but he also hasn't explained somethings which doesn't help. David P is actually one of the very few commentators being rational right now. Just today on Rising (at the Hill) the new hosts Ryan and Emily claimed they had proof Dr. Fauci lied. They showed 2 videos. In the 1st Dr. Fauci says we didn't know at first that masks were effective outside the hospital environment. In the 2nd he says there was a shortage of masks and they wanted to reserve them for hospital staff. They claimed there is a lie in that. Yeah where? Those are not mutually exclusive statements. Do I personally think Dr. Fauci has deliberately lied? NO, but he hasn't told all that he knows at times. Is that defendable? Absolutely - considering how both sides of American politics and media behave. When everything you say gets attacked by one side or the other shutting you mouth is the only option BUT eventually you do need to explain things. What I want is a straight forward explanation of what Peter Daszak (and others) were up to with that lab in Wuhan and so far that has NOT happened. Over 3.7 million are dead, their families deserve honest answers.
