ENGINEER HERE: This is the sort of story that utterly infuriates engineers, because its engineers who have to do the work to fix this disaster. NOT Economists, NOT Lawyers, NOT Overrated TV personalities and NOT Politicians. Engineers have been trying to tell Australia for over a decade that these power stations were getting too old to keep them running. Like any machine they eventually wear out. I'm mainly from manufacturing and mining and first became aware of how precarious our situation was in 2016 when I did a small project into Australia's energy sector. Other than being shocked at our situation was I found the same situation is prevalent across the developed world AND ITS CUASED BY ECONOMISTS. This is why hearing another Economist blab on as if they know what they are saying is so infuriating. Economists have managed to do more damage than politicians, lawyers and religious fanatics combined. They told everyone the privatise everything including energy BUT they had no idea how energy works in an economy. Go look up STEVE KEEN. He's one of the few economists who's actually awake to how badly the rest of the economic profession has been. We can fix this mess but the clown brigade need to SHUT UP and GET OUT OF THE ROAD.
