Actually the hydrolox system for right now is the WORST possible plan. I am an aerospace engineer and have been writing and talking about this for some time. The biggest reason we haven't been back to the moon for 50+ years is because of badly planned development projects. Just go and look at the X-Planes list for how many projects were novel and pushed the boundaries BUT IN THE END just failed into obscurity. Boeing Lockheed and others fell into the situation where they were doing projects for the sake of getting the next project. The reason why Apollo was so incredibly successful was because it had a very direct set of GOALS. Namely - get a man on the moon and get him back safely. The Space Shuttle was ultimately a failure. YES - it was an amazing technical achievement in they made a reusable spaceplane work BUT it cost so much in manpower and money to operate that it starved other projects of resources PLUS it had specific goal. I'm no SpaceX or Elon fan but Crew Dragon works because its mission is crystal clear - get 4 people safely to the ISS and get them safely back down. Complex engineering is damn hard. I have over 30 years of it and never easy and the more unknowns you have in a project the worse it ends up. There's too many novelties in this and it wont go well.
