AEROSPACE ENGINEER - the Promo for VAST's Haven 2 popped up in my feed the other day and there's some readily apparent issues. 1) The Solar panels are FIXED to the side of the space module. Other than the simple issue of how they are deployed there's the even more important issue of how are they oriented towards the Sun so that they can generate consistent power. Maybe they plan on a reaction wheel system or something else. Considering that EVERYONE for decades has mounted their solar arrays on booms, truss sections or a combination they have always been built so they can be oriented. 2) Following on from the issue of the Solar arrays are the thermal arrays. Go and look at photos of the ISS and you'll see the panels that are at right angles to the solar arrays or just look up the Wikipedia page for the ISS thermal system. Those are thermal radiators and like all other space stations there needs to be a thermal system. If you look at Scotts around 14 minutes you can see there are thermal panes on the central Node. It doesn't make a lot of sense that you only start to need a thermal system like that AFTER you get that central node. It might not be as glamorous but they will build these types of stations the same what we have built them so far. THE FIRST or SECOND module launched will be the central hub so that it can be built off of. The next 2 are NOT in Scotts discussion but I saw them on the VAST promo. 3) There's 2 "bubble windows" on the side. They might be cute but this thing ahs to fit inside a rocket fairing. So do they plan on having the faring bulge out at one point?? It might NOT be much of an issue but its still an issue. 4) Promo video shows a designer interior and that might be good for a promo but like the ISS and other space stations so far the next major stations are going to be functionality first. There wont be any fancy wood panelling or designer sleeping bags or designer costumes from Star Trek or any other luxuries or comforts like they showed. Until we actually confirm there's been some substantial reductions in launch costs then human comforts will always be minimized.
