@herrschaftg35 great point there was a whole heap of stuff they did back in the 50s and 60s that people have simply forgotten about or worse they simply ignore

I am an aerospace engineer and Kistler Aerospace proposed this sort of reusable booster BACK IN THE 1990s. Their landing was very different they used parachutes and air bags. And long before Kistler there were other vertical take-off vertical landing systems going all the way back to the 1960s or have you forgotten the Apollo LM among others? So this is ANOTHER technology Elon Mush DID NOT INVENT. BUT (and he deserves credit) he did fund a system that actually works commercially. And the fact this booster did 19 successful flights is astonishing. I do mean that. The 19 flights is a genuine achievement. Unlike a lot of people I will give Elon credit where he deserves it and criticism where he deserves it. On aerospace he deserves enormous credit for getting America back to having a functioning manned system that can gets people up and down without costing $350-400 Million each shot, because they'd drag 75 tons of shuttle along each time. Among the Elon hate brigade you never hear anything about Boeing Starliner, which by comparison is a failure of epic proportions. BUT then Boeing have so many problems these days after the Max-8 and other failures its kind of pointless criticising them on anything because there's always another story just as bad or worse. On Elon's giant jeff Bezos penis contest that is the Starship. That's doomed to failure and will never achieve some of the fantasy level nonsense that's proposed. The actual booster from that system might find some life for those few ultra-heavy lifts, but the whole "do everything" Starship is doomed.
