Here's the issue. Everyone wants to compare something tangible like "technique" into these stupid band arguments as if it's a sports argument based on stats or something. The point is Metallica are better songwriters and write better songs. After Dave left the band Cliff started writing with James and Lars (Ride/Master/Justice) and the songs became MUCH MORE EPIC and less one dimentional like Kill 'Em All. Not to mention the solos are catchier and James' is a better singer. It's that simple. The better songs win. Megadeth's upside doesn't hold a candle to Metallica's upside and anyone who wants to compare downside just listen to Risk. Gross.

Yeah dude you're not gonna win that argument.

It's art man not guitar exercise.

That's really all there is to it. Ride/Master/Justice "crushes" (see what I did there) anything Megadeth did...As much as I do like Megadeth in its own right.

Drew McGivhan Anthrax and Slayer? You must be deff.

Leo Uwazuruonye You're missing the point then. Metal is not about technique. Technique is something that should aid you not decide what you should or should not do. The Four Horseman is a better song then Mechanix. It's not as fast, MAYBE not as "technical" but it gallops. It's heavier and more sinister which is the whole point of the song. Mechanix sounds like it's being picked on a banjo. Gross.

Megadeth has an album called Risk. The WORST album from either band. It has disco songs on it...

I disagree Hetfield far out abilities Mustaine's singing/playing/stage presence (he actually moves around) while playing blistering rhythm guitar and singing much better while playing. Cliff Burton destroys Dave Ellefson in talent and writing ability. I would also add that Metallica's songs are more clever and flow MUCH BETTER. The lyrics are also more descriptive and MUCH DARKER I.E. The Four Horseman vs. Mechanix and musically darker (Call of the Ktulu vs. When.) On that note the titles are better too lol and Metallica is just as technical but they show better restraint as to not overplay the entire time so that technique doesn't get in the way away of the overall quality of the song ala Pink Floyd. Because of that the music is more relatable strengthening the connection between the audience and the artist making them the better band artistically. I would also argue that Metallica comes off as the more RAW/wild edged band while Megadeth (to their detriment) has the more careful, precise style. More uptight. And for all the flack Lars gets go watch the Justice tour videos and compare that with the Megadeth drummers that just sit there and tap away. I'd take Lars in '89 8 days a week.

Yeah Mechanix is so much heavier than 4 horseman. Sarcasm Sounds like it was played on a banjo LOL!

Mechanix. Sounds. Like. It. Was. Played. On. A. Banjo. And then artificially sped up taking all the sinister heaviness and gallop out of the song. Not to mention the Four Horseman's lyrics are WAYYYYYYYYYYY more badass then Mechanix. Duh.

Totally disagree. Fight Fire with Fire, Damage Inc, Dyers Eve are heavier than anything Megadeth has ever written. Hetfields vocals murder Dave's in their prime and I'm one of the few that actually like Mustaines vocals but anyone who thinks he could sing/yell with Hetfield during the Master and Justice tours is out of their mind. I just think they are the more clever and well put together band and that's why they became bigger. Simple as that. They trimmed all the fat off their songs until they were lean and mean well oiled machines meanwhile I think Megadeth would have done well to do the same. But to each their own.

Metal is whatever comes out of your imagination end of story. Whether it is "technical" or not. It doesn't matter. It's all about what makes the song a better song. There's been plenty of times where I have dialed notes and technique back because it's taking away from the song. It's becoming a klusterfuck. There's been times when I've made a song more technical added more notes that weren't there before. It's all about being an inventor first and using or NOT USING technique to support your ideas. The more technique you have sometimes the less raw you sound and the more like a robot or computer or whatever the fuck you wanna call it you sound which takes away from the personality and human quality of the song. Stop showing off. If you want BPM become a statistician and work for the NFL or some other sport. Players have stats that rank there production. Music does not. Sorry Metal is music and music is a form of art and you CAN'T quantify art. Peace the fuck out.

***** Nothing proves you as a musician but the quality of your songs. Least of which is technical prow less. A win in a game is better than how many homers you hit during batting practice ;)

No I didn't. It's just not as good as Ride/Master or Justice. Probably not as good as Kill 'Em All.

MrAero164 disagree.

John Stark What a horrible thing to say. Risk is a disco album while Re-Load has Fuel. You're horrible.

And Broderick might be the worst solo writing guitarist I've ever heard. I'd take Jimmy Page over him all day long. Broderick can't write a lick. Guitar is not a sport and it's not a video game.
1
No I'm sticking with Page over the others. While I REALLY like Iommi and Blackman I think Page def out "techniques" both of them especially on the song remains the same video. He can do things the others simply can't and in a MEMORABLE way which is really the only thing that matters in the end.
